Palma de Mallorca, Spain — Today, Balearic Helicopters are pleased to announce a brand-new sustainable fuel for use in the R44 helicopter.

With the rising cost of AVGAS and ever-increasing environmental concerns, Balearic Helicopters has been working closely with a specialist biofuel start-up, Biogenic Residue Output for Modular Aviation (BROMA).

Using locally sourced organic inputs from the Tramuntana Mountains and the Binissalem region, combined through a patent-pending reactive process, BROMA has developed a high-efficiency aviation fuel with a superior power-to-weight ratio than standard AVGAS.

Further details regarding the organic inputs—reportedly including Tramuntana Goat droppings and select Mallorcan red wine—will be released in due course.

In testing, the R44 demonstrated a significant improvement in performance, particularly in mountainous regions. Notably, enhanced hover stability was observed when operating over long grass.
