All Balearic Helicopters training is on a one-to-one basis with your FIC instructor. Training is completed in the R44

Balearic Helicopters recognises that every course and every student is different, so we tailor the training to suit you.

The FI (H) course compromises both flying, how to instruct a student (Teaching & Learning) and theoretical knowledge instruction to prepare you to become a helicopter flight instructor. The minimum flying experience required to qualify for the flight instructor course is 30 hours. The theory training is 125 hours.

All ground, pre-flight and post-flight briefings are inclusive in the hourly training rate. The flight excercises involve comprehensive briefing by an instructor.

We pride ourselves on the standard of instruction here at Balearic Helicopters and have found that students find the one-to-one instruction more beneficial that the class structure. Balearic Helicopters has 2 Full Time FIC Instructors on site in Mallorca.

With Balearic Helicopters having 25 years industry experience and a reknowned reputation for the highest quality of training (many of Europe's top helicopter operators have pilots that trained or worked with Balearic Helicopters in the past!) we have the contacts that can put you on the right path for your career! The Helicopter

The Robinson R44 is the modern helicopter available for training and is ideal for the FI(H). It is estimated that 85% of all new civilian helicopter pilots are trained on the Robinson 44.

Balearic Helicopters also specialise in EASA Type Rating Training which will allow you to fly larger five place helicopters such as the Robinson R66.

The information provided here will hopefully answer some of the questions you might have, although undoubtedly not all.

Common Questions

What are the main differences between an ICAO and an EASA pilot license?

The primary difference lies in regulatory standards: EASA licenses adhere to European regulations, which often have stricter requirements for training, medicals, and ongoing proficiency compared to ICAO standards, which vary by country.

How long does the conversion process from ICAO to EASA typically take?

The conversion process generally takes between 1 to 3 months, depending on factors such as the pilot’s availability, exam schedules, and the time required to complete any additional training modules.

What documents and qualifications do I need to begin the ICAO to EASA conversion?

You'll need your current ICAO license, a valid Class 1 medical certificate, proof of flight hours, logbook entries, and any relevant certificates of training or exams. Additional documentation may be required based on your specific circumstances.

Can I complete the ICAO to EASA conversion while working as a pilot?

Yes, the conversion process can be managed alongside your current job. Many training providers offer flexible scheduling, including part-time and weekend options, to accommodate working pilots.

Are there any exemptions or shortcuts available for experienced pilots during the conversion?

Experienced pilots may be eligible for exemptions based on their flight hours, types of aircraft flown, and previous training. However, all pilots must still pass the EASA theoretical exams and skill tests relevant to their license type.
