Anyone can be taught how to fly a helicopter, but balearic helicopters will teach you how to become a pilot.
At Balearic Helicopters we don’t just believe in doing things well, we believe in doing things right. We equip our pilots with the knowledge, experience, and attitude to fly safely - all on the beautiful island of Mallorca.
Mallorca enjoys a moderate climate with considerably less rain and warmer temperatures - averaging 15° in winter and 31° in summer. Unlike northern Europe, there very few days when we can’t fly - even in January and February.
With over 300 days of sunshine per year, this significantly improves the certainty of completing a course within a given timeframe.
Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Mallorca is only 100km wide and 75kms long, yet it offers a remarkable variety of terrain. The skies available to private flying are virtually deserted and devoid of air traffic control. The only restriction is the over-flying of the City of Palma, leaving limitless open spaces in which to train while enjoying the scenery.
From the incredible Tramuntana mountains to golden beaches and sheer cliffs, mediaeval towns to orange groves and vineyards - there are few more special places on earth to fly.
Head of Training and founder of Balearic Helicopters, Jonny Greenall has wealth of helicopter knowledge and over 7500 hours flown throughout Europe, the UK and USA. Whether it’s landing on a superyacht, flying in the mountains, or teaching Ground School, Jonny tackles it all with skill, enthusiasm, and a vast sense of humour.
He has trained hundreds of students and they return again and again to continue their pilot education. His team of Flight Instructors have over 6000 hours combined experience and, as they were all trained by Jonny himself, they uphold the highest of training standards.
Balearic Helicopters is an Approved Training Organisation ESP.ATO.320 under the European Aviation Safety Agency. We are fully insured and our professional pilots are subject to bi-annual flight testing and medicals.
Part of your journey of becoming a pilot is the theoretical knowledge to understand all aspects of aviation. At Balearic Helicopters, we will spend whatever Ground School time is necessary to help you succeed. Tuition is one-to-one and not arduous or difficult. Surprisingly, it can be almost as interesting as the flying!
You can now complete the Ground School for the PPL (H) before you arrive in Mallorca, so you can purely focus on your flight training. We also offer remote support on a one-to-one basis for each of the theoretical knowledge subjects
If intensive 4-5 week courses do not suit you, we can schedule part-time training for weekends and holidays. Flights to Palma de Mallorca (PMI) are available from 60 European cities, making short trips feasible and affordable.
Balearic Helicopters is based at Son Bonet Aerodrome (LESB) just 5 kilometres north of Palma International Airport. Despite this proximity, Son Bonet is very quiet, with no commercial traffic. However, for added interest a few flying schools and local firefighting aeroplanes and helicopters are based there.
Son Bonet has a 1200m asphalt runway and acres of grass areas for the practice of ground-handling skills and hovering. Our hangar is next to the helipad apron - providing easy access to our fleet, plus extra storage for visiting helicopters. The office is also on-site, with a large, air-conditioned training room for ground school and flight briefings.
Balearic Helicopters complies with the most rigorous safety and quality requirements in the aviation industry. Our fleet is serviced and maintained by HELISWISS IBÉRICA - with over 30 years of experience and a highly proficient technical team in Barcelona.
We have two Robinson R44 Raven 1s. These are considered one of the best training helicopters, offering excellent performance and stability. For experienced pilots wishing to upgrade from piston engine to turbine flying, we also have the R66 Turbine Marine, with full glass cockpit.
Let’s be frank. Flying a helicopter is pretty exclusive. At Balearic Helicopters we do not offer ‘low-cost’, we offer extraordinary value. We train you in the 4-seater R44 from the outset, so you build your experience in the larger aircraft and no Conversion licence (from R22 or Cabri) is required in future.
Our training packages include Ground School tuition, landing & circuit fees in Son Bonet and all fuel, so there are no nasty surprises.
Whether your goal is working as a commercial pilot, owning your own helicopter, or flying for fun, the optimal training environment at Balearic Helicopters will get you there faster.
